Tanzania Travel Advice

Tanzania has a wealth of attractions for any traveller. Whether the high peaks of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro, the vast open plains of the Serengeti, or the turquoise waters of Zanzibar that attract you, it is imperative that you seek pre-travel advice before you go to ensure you stay healthy.

It is recommended that all travellers are up-to-date with their routine immunisations. All travellers should ensure that they have received a vaccination against Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio in the last 10 years. All travellers are advised to ensure they have been vaccinated against Hepatitis A and Typhoid.

There is a low risk of Yellow Fever in Tanzania, however proof of vaccination will be required if entering from a country that has a risk of Yellow Fever.

There may be a need for additional immunisations. Depending on the nature of the trip, destinations visited, duration of travel and activities, other vaccinations could be considered. These include:-

There is a risk of malaria in all of Tanzania and anti-malarial medication may be advised.

Some parts of the country are at altitude, and considerations to prevent acute mountain sickness should be sought. Those who are planning on trekking Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru should seek pre-travel advice regarding altitude sickness.

Prevention against insect bites in Tanzania is essential.

When travelling in Tanzania, precautions against food and water borne illnesses should be sought.
