Eyecare

- Corporate eye care plan

Whitby & Co – our own optometry practice – has a well-established 3-decade reputation as one of London’s leading independent opticians, and is known for the same principles of clinical excellence. With our experienced and well-qualified optometrists, you can be certain your employees will be in excellent hands.

Uniquely for an optical practice, Whitby & Co. optometrists have all of the resources of the Fleet  Street Clinic at their disposal, which means that any of your employees who need follow-up can be attended to immediately and at a single visit – whether this means a simple blood pressure check with one of our nurses, antibiotic treatment or more complex referral arrangements.

Maintaining your employees’ eye care is not just important for their wellbeing and productivity, it can also be a legal requirement. Under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations, 1992, if your employees need to use visual display units (VDU) such as computer screens as part of their job, employers have a legal obligation to pay for eye examinations and meet the cost of any spectacles necessary for VDU work.

If your employees should need prescription spectacles, our dispensing opticians will be on hand to offer guidance and practical advice. We have our own optical lab, for fastest turnaround. And if your glasses ever need to be adjusted or fixed, you can simply drop into the clinic whenever convenient, and one of our dispensing opticians will do this for you straight away.

Eye examinations and sight tests for employees

Aside from screen / VDU users, who else would benefit from this service?

Eye examinations are essential for everyone as eye health can deteriorate over time and with age, and changes can be subtle at first.

Not every company is legally obliged to provide eye care services for employees, but it is a valuable healthcare benefit to offer employees. Anyone whose performance at work reliant on good eyesight would benefit from this service.

Do you accept Edenred eye examination vouchers?

Yes, we accept Edenred eye examination vouchers which you can provide your employees directly.

In this case, you would supply your employees with their vouchers and they can book their eye examination with us. For it to be valid, they must remember to bring their voucher with them to their appointment.

How do I arrange this service?

If you think your employees would benefit from this service, please fill out the enquiry form below and one of our corporate business managers will contact you.

Our corporate business team are available to answer any questions you may have, to offer advice and to organise the service for you.

What does an eye examination entail?

An eye examination involves a series of tests used to assess and help optimise your vision and eye health.

This usually involved various instruments and pieces of equipment. Each test evaluates a different aspect of your vision and eye health.

How do VDUs impact the eyes?

Frequent use of screens / VDUs for extended periods of time can cause:

  • Headaches
  • Eye strain
  • Eye tiredness
  • Discomfort
  • Temporary short-sightedness
  • Problems with dryness

These can negatively affect your eyesight and annual check ups are recommended.

Can you fix broken glasses?

Yes, we have a team of dispensing opticians who can help with broken spectacles.

In most cases we are able to fix them whilst you wait. If however the damage is excessive, then we may need to send them off to be fixed. We will keep you informed every step of the way. Sometimes it’s more cost effective to purchase a new pair of glasses. If that is the case, we have ample styles and brands available.

I went to Fleet Street Clinic to get the rabies vaccine and it was a great service! The jabs were the cheapest I could find around London but the clinic was really clean and professional. Would recommend to come here for travel vaccines!

Brilliant clinic, would 100% recommend. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the nurse's care couldn't have been better. They managed to fit me in for a same-day appointment and provide me with helpful advice for follow up. Thank you :)

The stitches were removed very quickly and professionally. The nurse was very calm and approachable and made the whole experience really pleasant. It was also my first time having this type of procedure in the UK, so I was a little apprehensive, but there was no need to be!

Had to get a whooping cough vaccine to visit my new nephew in Australia…couldn’t have asked for a better service. Phoned on during the week, booked in for 9am, I arrived a few minutes early and was walking out the door vaccinated and back to work in less than 10 minutes after a refreshing chat with the lovely staff. What more can you ask for???

I was feeling ill while visiting from the States and am so glad I found this clinic. They slotted me in right away and provided everything I needed in-house without having to go to a pharmacy. I’m sure that’s not the case for all medications, but it’s great they can offer that service and that I lucked out and could get back to exploring. If you’re a fellow visitor reading this and are looking for a place to go, I would definitely recommend! Very reasonably affordable, stress-free, and friendly.

Have used Fleet Street Clinic a couple of times for GP services, most recently this month. The team from Reception to the GPs themselves are professional, do not rush and provide sufficient time for diagnosis and treatment discussion. I can’t fault any element of the service. They deserve more than 5 stars.

    FAQs

Unfortunately not. This is because the optometrists need all of their equipment and machines that are set up in the clinic in order to carry out an comprehensive eye examination.

Regular eye examinations are important because eyesight can change quite quickly and it’s important to ensure that you are wearing the correct prescription spectacles if you need them. Eye examinations also look at the overall health of your eye as well as indicators of your whole body health such as diabetes and heart health.

No. Employers have to pay for the eye examination and also for spectacles if the tests reveal that the employee needs spectacles specifically for VDU use.

Yes, you can find more information about private eye care for individuals here.

We are conscientious that some of our patients or their close family members are deemed clinically vulnerable. Therefore, all our staff are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 for your protection and peace of mind.
