Full Respiratory Panel PCR Testin Central London

Full Respiratory Panel PCR Test

Our tests detect 22 different causes of respiratory infection using highly sensitive and specific PCR technology, at the same time and all from a simple nose or throat swab, with results delivered in little over an hour from the moment the sample reaches our lab. It can be difficult or impossible to tell these infections apart, just from symptoms and examination, but it can become crucially important to know the precise diagnosis.

You can see the full list of pathogens we test for, below.

Individual PCR tests for some of these pathogens (and of course also for SARS-CoV-2) are also available.

This winter has already seen high rates of infection. Pinpointing the cause of a respiratory infection can make a dramatic difference to treatment and management. Anti-viral medicines are available to treat influenza (flu), SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19). Infections such as Mycoplasma (currently the cause of outbreaks this winter) and whooping cough are treatable with antibiotics.

With other infections, antibiotics may be ineffective, but it can still be valuable to know with certainty that they are not needed. Controlling the spread of infection, protecting vulnerable people from COVID-19, and understanding the likely severity and course of an infection, all add to the importance of an accurate diagnosis.

Getting an answer in under 2 hours makes this a powerful clinical tool.

Respiratory PCR test results help clinicians make better-informed decisions about diagnosis and treatment, and helps avoid speculative and unnecessary treatment when it is clearly not needed.

It is not necessary for you to come to the clinic in person to have this test: if you are unwell, we can send you a swab with a courier, who will wait for you to take the sample and return it to our lab.

Remove the Guesswork...

Find out the exact cause of your symptoms in under 2 hours.

PCR technology is used to target the genetic material of viruses and bacteria that cause infection, and amplifies the tiniest traces to make them detectable and identifiable. Due to the pandemic, everyone became familiar with PCR for testing for Covid-19 but it can be done for much more than this. It is a quick and efficient way of identifying the disease-causing organism that is making you feel unwell.

We test for multiple causes from a single sample, so we can clearly pinpoint the cause of your symptoms. Identification allows tailored treatment to make you feel better again.

I went to Fleet Street Clinic to get the rabies vaccine and it was a great service! The jabs were the cheapest I could find around London but the clinic was really clean and professional. Would recommend to come here for travel vaccines!

I recently sought treatment at Fleet Street Clinic for painful ears; I was quickly diagnosed by Dr Hartmann. He prescribed ear drops and arranged an appointment for me a week later with Lucy Mildren. Within a week my ears were better. Everything was very efficient and I was treated with care and skill.

After I was let down with little notice by another pharmacy, I called Fleet Street Clinic and was booked in for the next day for my remaining travel jabs. Staff were very welcoming, professional and efficient. I had a great experience and would highly recommend using their travel vaccination services. The prices are very competitive and they had stock of the rabies vaccine when it was out of stock elsewhere!

FAQs

All that’s needed is a small swab from the throat and/or nose. This then goes into a small plastic vial containing liquid solution. Using our in-house lab, the sample is tested right away and takes a little over 1 hour to process on the machine.

PCR stands for “polymerase chain reaction” which is a biochemical method of searching samples for the tiniest traces of genetic material belonging to disease-causing organisms, and then amplifying them to a point where they can be easily detected to determine if an infection is present. This can be done for any disease-causing organism and we can test for multiple causes within the same sample – making it really quick and efficient at identifying illnesses. We can clearly pinpoint the cause of your symptoms and work out the best course of treatment.

Yes, we have an onsite pharmacy based at 29 Fleet Street Clinic. Once a diagnosis has been made, the correct treatment such as antibiotics or antiviral medications can be dispensed right away.

One of our nurses can come to you, to take a sample. If you are happy to take a swab yourself, we can send  you a swab with a courier, who will wait while you take the sample and then bring it back to our lab for processing – we’ll send you the result without delay.
