Potential Exposure
Rabies is present in the animals saliva, it can enter the body via bites, scratches and licks.
Wild animals are most likely to carry rabies, including: dogs, bats, raccoons and foxes.

Receive Rabies Immune Globulin (RIG)
Given only once, on the first day of treatment. RIG is injected directly into and around the wound.
If the wound is hard to reach or small, any leftover RIG is injected into a large muscle.

Rabies Vaccine Series
Receive a series of 3 shots of rabies vaccine.
The vaccine teaches your body to make its own antibodies to fight the virus.
