Covid-19 rt-PCR Testing for International Travel

For the foreseeable future, coronavirus testing will play some kind of role in facilitating international travel.

Each country has its own entry rules for English travellers and will outline whether you need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination status to gain entry and whether or not you need to quarantine when you get there. Please check the requirement of the country you are travelling to before booking any covid tests. You can find the requirements for your destination country on the GOV.UK website.

For those returning back to England, depending on where you have visited will depend on the testing and requirements upon your arrival. Countries and territories of the world have been separated into 2 lists: the red list and the rest of the world.

Travellers returning from a red list country are required to quarantine in a managed quarantine hotel. This is not a service provided by us at the Fleet Street Clinic. If you require this service, more information including how to book this can be found here.

Travellers returning from the rest of the world, (countries and territories not on the red list) will need to follow guidelines dependent on your vaccination status.

Arrivals recognised as fully vaccinated, will only have to take a day 2 test, with no requirement to isolate unless positive. The day 2 covid-19 rt-PCR tests are administered by one of our clinical staff at our clinic on Fleet Street, London.

Arrivals recognised as not-fully vaccinated, you are required to book a day 2 and day 8 test prior to travelling to England. Both tests are administered by one of our clinical staff at our clinic on Fleet Street, London.

On arrival there is a mandatory quarantine period of 10 days. You are eligible for the Test to Release scheme which can reduce your quarantine period from 10 days to 5 as long as you have tested negative on your day 2 test.

There is separate guidance for people who live in another country on how to travel to England.

More information on all our travel Covid-19 rt-PCR tests can be found below.

Which testing do you need to travel?

What covid-19 testing you must do before you travel to England and after you arrive if dependent on where you have travelled to, from and through, in addition to your vaccination status.
We would recommend visiting the UK Government's website to find out more information on what countries and territories are considered "red list" and what are considered "the rest of the world".

We are not able to accommodate travellers returning from a "red listed country. You will need to look at the UK Government's website to find more information.

FAQs

PCR testing is mandatory for those returning from green and amber list countries as part of government’s guidelines. Day 2 is mandatory for all, whilst day 8 is only mandatory for those who have travelled from or through an amber list country in the 10 days prior to their return. This is to check if you have coronavirus and to find out if you will have to self-isolate in your home.

Red list countries and territories are the countries subject to the strictest travel restrictions. To return from a red list country, you must take a COVID-19 test, book a quarantine hotel package (including 2 COVID-19 tests) and complete a passenger locator form. We do not currently provide testing for travellers returning from red list countries at the Fleet Street Clinic.

Amber list countries are subject to travel restrictions of medium severity. To return from an amber list country, you must book and pay for day 2 and day 8 COVID-19 travel tests and complete a passenger locator form. You can find out more about our amber package here [link], which includes one day 2 and one day 8 test administered at an in-clinic appointment.

Green list countries are subject to the least travel restrictions. To return from a green list country you must book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test and complete a passenger locator form. You can find out more about our green package here [link], which includes one day 2 test administered at an in-clinic appointment.

The day you enter the UK counts as day 0 and not as day 1. For example, if you returned to the UK on June 13th 2021, your Day 2 test would take place on the 15th June 2021.

Upon arrival in the UK, all international travellers are required to self-isolate. If you have only travelled from or through a green list country in the 10 days prior to your return, you must book a day 2 test to be taken after you arrive. If you receive a negative result from this test, you may leave quarantine.

If you have travelled from or through an amber list country in the 10 days prior to your return, you must book a day 2 and day 8 test to be taken after you arrive. Unless you take a day 5 (test to release) PCR test, you must quarantine for 10 days after your arrival. Find out more about quarantining if you’ve been in an amber list country here.

If you would like to leave quarantine early after returning from an amber list country, you can book a test to release PCR test.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide testing for travellers returning from red list countries. More information about returning from a red list country can be found here.

Once you have booked and paid for your day 2 and/or day 8 test(s), we will register your information with our external lab. Once this has been completed, we will provide you with your ID number for your passenger locator form.

For day 5 testing, we will provide you with your ID number once we have registered you with our in-clinic lab, following the booking and payment for your day 5 test.

We are only providing day 2 and day 8 testing as in-clinic appointments at the moment. Please contact us on 02073535678 or  testandrelease@fleetstreetclinic.com if you would like a nurse visit at home or a corporate location.

Our PCR equipment has been calibrated to pick up the gene of coronavirus and so it will detect all variants of covid-19 as they all share the same gene. We can calibrate our machines further, should the need arise in the future – such as, if a new variant is identified that has more genetic variety than what can currently be detected. We can do this swiftly without impacting the service we provide our patients.
